In the first round of the cup on a Thursday evening at Byfield Road, it was Hardwick Sports who had the better first-half, with the home team not getting tight enough to their men and trying to force forward passes during moments of frustration. But, managing to keep the ball out of the home net during the first half was vital, with the score at 0-0 as both teams went in at the break, the game was all to play for.

Woodford United were able to kick on in the second half, however. Using the width of the home pitch and keeping the ball better than in the first half allowed the boys to take control of the game and this control then lead to what was a dominating second half from Bunting's Woodford side. A perfect hattrick from Adam Confue and another from Tom Haynes brought home the W with the home team running out 4-0 winners by the time the second half came to a close.
