An early season six pointer is up next this weekend for the first team as they travel to Blisworth FC for the second meeting this season but first in the league.
The hosts are currently leading the Premier Division but with Woodford matching them for points going into the 10th game of the season, it's a +4 goal difference for Blisworth that keeps them in front.
The astute amongst you will notice that this is Woodford's second "10th game of the season" and that is because during the last week or so, AFC Rushden & Diamonds have pulled their Development squad from the league to try to consolidate their efforts towards their first team. This means that all games that they have played this season have been voided and points in the league adjusted accordingly.
Back to Woodford United, the last time these two teams met was in the First Round of the Gorell Barnes Cup back in September. It was an eight goal thriller that could only be settled with a penalty shoot-out in which Blisworth emerged as the victors. It was a game that saw Woodford blast their way to a 3-1 lead at half time (including a Paul Beevor banger!) but Blisworth were slowly able to claw themselves back into the match and even found themselves ahead with the scoreline at 4-3. It then took a ridiculously composed from Jayden Buckmaster with four minutes left on the clock to send the game to extra time.
The boys will be looking for more of the first half and less of the second half this weekend with the top of the table in sight for the first time this season.
Can captain Robson Kightly and midfield lynch-pin Harry Stowe drive the team forward into what is sure to be a wet and windy match against arguably the best team in the league.
If you can get yourself over to Courteenhall Road in Blisworth at 13:45 on Saturday, it's certain to be a cracking game of football. Let's hope the boys from Woodford can bring home the six points!
Kick-off: 13:45
